(BUCKINGHAM & CHANDOS, Duke of.) 10 Volumes of Royal Memoirs.

£1,100.00

First Editions. 8vo., beautifully bound by Worsfold in uniform, red crushed half morocco, top edges gilt, spines gilt in compartment, engraved frontispieces, marbled endpapers. Published by Hurst and Blackett (13 Great Marlborough Street, London), 1855 - 1861.

The titles included in this set of Royal Memoirs include: Memoirs of the Court and Cabinets of George the Third, 4 vol., 1855; Memoirs of the Court of England in the Regency, 2 vol., 1856; Memoirs of the Court of George IV, 2 vol., 1859; Memoirs of the Court and Cabinets of William IV. and Victoria, 2 vol., 1861.

A very handsome set. Near Fine.

A little spotting to the title page and frontispieces of three volumes, a small page tear (not affecting any text) expertly and discreetly repaired by the bindery of George Bayntun, to the bottom of pp. 369 of Volume II of Cabinets of William IV. and Victoria.

These volumes have a notable provenance containing the engraved bookplates of Sir William Eden Bart (4 April 1849 – 20 February 1915), a British Politician, noted bibliophile and art collector, trained water-colourist, traveller and Sportsman. He is perhaps most well remembered for being the Father of Anthony Eden, British Prime Minster from 1955-1957. (Rhodes, James, 1986, pp. 9 – 15.)
